To be honest. The reason I haven’t been posting much is because since being back in Canada my camera has been out of commission and then recently sold. So I haven’t had anything breath taking to upload anyways.  But I kind of feel like I should at least put something up in the time between me selling my camera and getting a new camera so here it is.

Things you may or may not have known since me moving home

1. I have my own place! thats right iv gone from having a minimum of 3 room mates to a maximum of 0! I love it so much and its an amazingly welcome change, its super close to everything that matters in my city and best of all one of my best friends lives right above me ( its a basement suite that im in ) So halarity and hours of simpsons is never too far away. And it works awesome with me working shift work because I can cook and watch tv at 3am if i need to and no one is bothered!

2. Speaking of shift work. I basically got my dream job as soon as I got home which i never thought I would get. Im now working as a youth worker for a not for profit organization ( I still get paid though haha ) called EGADZ , I work in there youth based group home program and I love it! Its really challenging especially lately. But I couldnt ask to be doing anything else. It keeps be busy and on my toes but definatly WAY different from the Youth street program I helped with while in Australia. The backgrounds these teens come from ranges from never been in care or had a criminal record to kids coming from multiple care homes and with serious addictions and court conditions. So its really challenging learning how to interact with each of them.

3. I am a crazy cat lady?
Seriously. I used to hate cats ( and still kind of do ) but since my land lord wont let me have dogs I had to settle with cats. But they are pretty entertaining and good company at 3am

4. Uhm…. its winter? I dont know. I sort of hated winter when it first rolled around but I realized how much I actually missed this -40 degree weather. it makes things so pretty. But then again. I read an article in our paper recently that went like this

“There’s a question I frequently ask myself in winter. It most often comes to mind when I’m wrapped up tightly like a down-filled mummy, only my eyes exposed, waiting for a bus.

Why is Saskatchewan inhabited?

I mean, I know *how* the Prairies were settled. I just don’t understand why any clear-thinking human would stay in a climate whose conditions could kill you for four or five months out of the year.

The only reasonable answer I’ve found so far was a succinct reply from a bookstore employee, who informed me — straight-faced — that Saskatchewan will be one of the only safe places left when the zombie apocalypse arrives. (Not ‘if’ — when )”

And that got me thinking. I love Saskatchewan.

Next stop was San Francisco/ San Jose! To visit my friends Micah and Joanna ( Whom I worked with in the media department in Townsville ! )
I dont have many photos of said trip due to my laptop still being a vice to all my photos. But here is one that I DO have.
This day basically consisted of us wandering around shops we couldnt afford, and me throwing up on a crowded train after it was backed up because of a shooting, so there were ALOT of people present.
Oh the memories.

Yeah… it was a pretty hard life.

I did end up being constructive near the end of my trip. I helped out Matt and the guys in their skate distribution warehouse and helped out with an event they put on called ” Reach the Beach ” Basically its a huge skate comp on the beach. Admist the comp. They hand out free bibles to all the participants and generally have a positive atmosphere running down there.
Love the heart of everyone working down at the skate ministry. It was so refreshing to spend some time with like minded people. and be able to catch up with one of my favorite people ever.

4 days and counting.

I don’t know if I have quite come to terms with this fact, but weather or not I decide to its still coming up none the less.

My plans? Well. for the next week and a half I will be squeezing every ounce of fun out of this country before I leave. Bon fires, Beaches ( even though its 10C ), Dinner with friends, tackling kangaroos, trips to the waterfalls, frosty mango, crumbed steak at molly malones, you name it.
After that  I will be making my way to the Sunshine Coast for a week( its a hard life, i know ) to visit my good friend Matt Cheetham. Do a video project , get some head space and hang out on the beach.  After THAT I will be flying to San Jose/San Francisco/Redding to visit some more friends, Joanna, Sam Nudds and  Micah for 4 days and on July 14th. Ill be flying back into Saskatoon!

After all that fun and sun, Im going to be taking a short break to figure out how to live in Canada again, take photos for a friends wedding at the end of July, and then look for a job of some sort to get enough money to get some new camera gear.

Finally, next year September ill be looking at doing a Youth Care Worker course at SIAST in Saskatoon and persuing to work with troubled youth/youth with addictions/councelling of some sort.

In the meantime. Ill still keep this blog updated. Im not disappearing off the face of the planet. Just the Southern Hemisphere.
