  1. 2 days left until PNG!

    August 30, 2010 by Steph

Our media team went down to Reef HQ, the local aquarium yesterday to have a training session with our new video camera gear. We asked nicely and said we were from the medical ship ( which was docked right behind the aquarium actually ) and we were able to get in for free! So it was a fun afternoon learning little tricks and what the plethora of buttons on the camera do. Nick is a great teacher but sadly we wont be coming to PNG to until 2 weeks in.
countless people would walk by and say stuff like ” Now THATS a camera ” I dont know why people feel the need to point out the obvious. haha. Granted. the thing IS a beast.  I have a decently steady hand with a camera. But by the end of the 2 hour training my wrists were shaking like a leaf. Its going to be interesting trying to figure out how to get all our gear over there when the camera bag is half the size of both me and Joanna.

  2. And I’m off!

    August 25, 2010 by Steph

So, Its official! It was confirmed today. In exactly one week ( as soon as I buy my plane ticket ) I will be in Papua New Guinea, land of the unexpected!

Like I mentioned a couple posts back I’ll be there for 6 weeks doing various photojournalism/video projects for the YWAM Medical Ship

I will be living on the ship with a team of 50 volunteers, which include deck hands, and medical proffesionals, my job being, ( with 2 other of my communications friends )  to document stories of people in the village and on the ship. Bringing more awareness to the incredible need in Papua New Guinea while , at the same time, telling stories of hope and change. Following along with our slogan ” I want to live ” which is based off of the bible verse John 10:10 ” The theif (Satan) comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. But I ( Jesus ) have come so that they may have life, and life to the full”

I cannot even begin to explain how excited I am to be a part of this,  I have been waiting almost 3 years to finally use my passion in this unique way, my heart has always been to use photography and video to show hope, and bring about change in a nation that needs it, instead of my photos getting dusty on a shelf or hard drive. I want to use my gifts for change and a cause instead of self gratification. To boast in God and who He is and what He has created and not boast in my own abilities.

Update – I received all my finances for my outreach today! I cant even begin to know how to thank you all who have been supporting me so far! It means so much!

  3. “Vintage” iSnack 2.0

    August 24, 2010 by Steph

Another one of the great things about YWAM is our Food Bank priviledges. Since we are a non profit. We qualify to get discounted food from there! yay!
and much to our surprise we got this massive pack of “vintage”  ”iSnack 2.0″ for free! You dont get much more discounted then that!

What is iSnack 2.0?? If any of you have ever heard of vegemite ( Bascially soya sauce in spread form. yuck ) . This is exactly that, but with cream cheese added into it.
SO they had a Australia wide competition to name the new product and unfortunatly. The name turned out to be iSnack 2.0…. And if your a normal human being with any kind of a soul. you would also realize this is a horrible name for a product of any kind so naturally. The entirety of Australia was concerned, and in an uproar by the new name. Demanding change. ( this stuff is something Australians really pride themselves in )

So, not wanting to lose any more money. They swiftly renamed it yet again to Cheesy bite. Not great, but much bettter.

So to make a short story long. thats why this pack of a horribly named product was given to us for free!

This is me and my British friend Aidan being excited about it.

  4. See ya Sam-i-am

Today was the day Sam Nudds left…. for real!

But dont worry, it wasnt without another big banner trying to convince him to stay ( see earlier posts )  which I dont have a photo of. oops. Sadly this time, I dont think it worked. Because this evening, he boarded his plane to New Zealand for some awesome new adventures I am sure.
He is well loved around here and will without a doubt, be missed

To celebrate how awesome he is. A couple of us took off down to the strand to give him one last hoorah and glimpse of Townsville.

Also, Here is the most epic band photo you will ever see.
